Our history

Founded in January 2020, Map-Collective set out to be the first visual dashboard for corporates to manage their supply chains in the context of climate, nature, and resource availability. After studying digital media and urban design at the Rhode Island School of Design, founder and CEO Tara Gupta wondered why we didn’t have such an interface for managing the challenges of resource availability and climate change. With the idea hailing from a design origin, the team is motivated by the accessibility design offers folks working in this complex space in this new era of resource and supply chain management. Piyush Gambhir, current Head of Product, joined the team in 2021, as the group began work with clients such as the County of Maui and cannabis giant Curaleaf. In 2021, Map-Collective was awarded with funding from the National Science Foundation SBIR program to develop a comprehensive blockchain system for tracking GHG emissions against the factors in the planetary boundaries’ tipping points, backed by a blockchain verification system. Through this work, the team came up against the data challenge facing supply chains today--that there isn’t enough high quality data upstream. Issac Hicks, current CTO, joined the team for it’s NSF Phase II SBIR funding in 2023 and developed the proprietary core AI technology that drives data collection for our traceability, emissions, and procurement toolkits that exist today. After raising external Venture Capital led by B Ventures, and being featured in publications from Forbes to NYWeekly, the team is rapidly releasing new tools that are being deployed at scale into Fortune 500 companies.
